Australia's second largest port operator is gradually restarting operations after a cyber attack took it offline. As thousands of shipping containers slowly start moving, just how vulnerable is Australia to audacious cyber criminals?

Port operator DP World Australia pulled the plug on its internet on Friday, shutting down terminals across the country, a defensive move after detecting a cyber attack.

The AFP is investigating the breach while the government says it's helping the company with a national response.

With 40% of goods relying on just one operator, obviously that’s a single point of failure. It means that if something goes wrong, it affects everyone. It doesn’t just affect the company.

It comes as a series of major cyber crime incidents such as Medibank and Optus data breaches has highlighted our vulnerability across critical infrastructure.

There’s a range of reasons. One is that the criminals are more organised and there are more of them and they’re better trained. Second, there’s not enough staff. It’s very hard to find cyber professionals to protect your organisation.

While DP World seems to have avoided catastrophe this time, just how vulnerable is Australia to spiralling cybercrime?
